Played For Both - Latics v Oxford United

 

Wigan Athletic and Oxford United:

Craig Davies, Yannic Wildschut, Josh Murphy Lewis Montrose, David Connolly, Chey Dunkley, Jonjoe Kenny, Conor McAleny, Luke Garbutt, Jerome Sinclair, Jamie Hanson, Marcus Browne, Wayne Biggins, David Collins, Colin Greenall and Darren Patterson.

There are 16 players on that list, including a couple of big players for the Latics, some of the older fans will cite Colin Greenall as one, but if I am being honest, I was never a fan, despite him captaining us to the title in 1997, I was never a lover of Greenall. Maybe it goes back to the fact he turned us down, twice, firstly to join Blackpool at the start of his career and then again to go to Preston, one snub is bad enough, but twice, no thanks.

Darren Patterson

There are two though that jump out to me, both defenders, Darren Patterson, who can forget his late, late equaliser away at Coventry in the FA Cup back in 1991. A bright prospect, who came to Springfield Park as a 20 year old and stayed for three seasons, the Northern Ireland international, played 97 games for the Latics before making us a bit of cash when he left for Crystal Palace.

Patterson finished his playing career off at Oxford and took up a coaching role after hanging his boots up, finally becoming Oxford’s manager on three separate occasions, one of them for just 8 days!

 

Cheyenne Armani Keanu Roma "Chey" Dunkley is the second of my choices, the only player on the list to join either club directly from the other one. A man mountain and a player who really got the Latics, and still can be found at the DW Stadium taking in games when he has a free period.

A childhood friend of former skipper Sam Morsy, Dunks amassed over 100 games for the Latics in his 3 seasons, scoring 13 goals, and for a period of time it appeared he would end the season as top scorer until Nick Powell got his act in order. 

Down at the Kassam Stadium, Dunks made 81 appearances for the Us and bagged 7 goals, when he signed for us I asked an Oxford supporter what the big man was like, “solid” was the reply, indeed he was.
