33 players in this list, not sure if this is complete, certainly looks like it could be from the modern era, 1978, at least, some big names in there that were fans favourites at both clubs.

It is difficult to pull out just one to focus on as there truly are some club legends and I apologies sincerely to those that don’t agree with my final choice, I have deliberated changed my mind several times, but the player I am going for is Sir Andrew Liddell

Andy Liddell

Barnsley Liddell made his Barnsley debut as a 19 year old and went on to make 198 appearances for the Tykes, helping Danny Wilson’s side to gain promotion to the Premier League in 1997 and playing his part for the club in the top flight.

The Latics Andy Liddell made the move to Springfield Park in October 1998, it took a fee of £350,000 to prise him from over the border, Liddell formed part of a three-pronged attack with Simon Howarth and Stuart Barlow.

In his six seasons at the club, Liddell played over 200 games, scoring a club record 70 goals, part of the team that won the Auto Windscreens Shield at Wembley in 1999, twice finishing in the third tier playoffs, finally winning promotion to League Division One with 100 points in 2003, Liddell was Player of the Season in the 1999/2000 and finished top scorer in the 2001/02 season, scoring the Latics 1500th league goal during that campaign.

Latics Legend, putting the fear of God into opposing defences, the one and only Andy Liddell.
