The 30 year old has been on the National List since the 2017/18 season. So far this campaign he has been in charge of 3 games creating a bit of controversy in one, sending off Stevenage’s Nathan Thompson on 22 minutes, a 2nd yellow for dissent in their 2:0 away defeat at Reading.

Backhouse has refereed the Latics four times previously, all at the DW Stadium, 3 wins and a draw, the last game was our 3:0 win over Accrington in April 2022.
His last Blackpool game came in February 2021, a 1:0 win at Bloomfield Road over Rochdale in League One.
