Meet The Ref - Sheffield United v Latics

Latics travel to over to South Yorkshire on Good Friday, Bramall Lane to be precise to play Sheffield United in a very important Championship fixture at both ends of the table, the referee for the game will be Hampshire based official, Andy Davies

Davies is a very rare breed in the referee circles having been a professional football player for Gillingham, Portsmouth and Yeovil, before injury forced him to retire at the tender age of 28.

Not one to feel sorry for himself, Andy immediately through himself into becoming a ref and he graduated rapidly onto the National List in 2012 and two years later he was taking charge of Championship games.

Since becoming an EFL referee, Andy Davies has taken charge of 336 games, issued 1233 yellow and 57 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 91 occasions.


Previous Games

Davies has taken charge of twelve Latics’ games previously, three of which have come this season, all wins, Birmingham and Rotherham away and Blackpool at the DW Stadium.

Davies last refereed Sheffield United back in the 2018/19 season, a 2:3 win away at Millwall on the 29 September 2018.

So far this season Andy Davies has refereed 20 games, of which 13 have come in the Championship.
