Meet The Ref - Huddersfield Town v Latics

Latics are back on the road this Tuesday, up the M62 for a visit to Huddersfield for a Championship fixture, the referee for the game will be Carnforth official, Jeremy Simpson.

A former Premier League and FIFA International assistant referee, Simpson is part of the ‘Select Group 2’ of professional ref’s after rising rapidly through the refereeing ranks, he was at Conference level in 2012 and found his feet in the Championship in the 2015/16 campaign when of the 35 games he took charge of over the season 15 were at 2^nd tier level.

 

 Previous Games

Jeremy Simpson’s first Latics game came in the Championship, back in August 2016, a 1:1 draw at the DW Stadium against Birmingham City, Craig Davies scoring a 90^th minute equaliser.

47 year old Simpson has previously taken charge of 14 Latics games, 6 of those games have been away from the DW Stadium, of which we’ve won none and lost four. In fact we have only won three games in which Jezza has been in charge, not the best of records.

 The last time Jeremy Simpson was officiating in a Wigan Athletic fixture was the 1-1 draw away at Rotherham last season, booking six players in total, four from the Latics.

Jeremy Simpson has refereed Huddersfield 14 times previously, the last of which came last season, a 0:1 away win at Hull, Simpson dished out 5 yellows and 1 red, just the 1 yellow to Huddersfield though.

Simpson has previously refereed a Latics v Huddersfield game, that came on 2^nd January 2017 at the DW Stadium, Huddersfield winning with the only goal of the game.
