The Latics and Wimbledon have a proud history of exploits as non-league clubs and entered the Football League just a year apart. Surprisingly though we have only met the Dons on 15 occasions as league clubs.
The first meeting coming way back in September 1978 in our first season in the league, losing 2:1 away at Plough Lane, we also lost the return fixture by the same score in February 1979.
We have met just five times under their new guise of AFC Wimbledon and we have yet to beat them at the DW Stadium, one draw and one defeat.
Earlier this campaign we won the reverse fixture at Plough Lane, a Paul Kalambayi own goal and a James McClean strike, both coming in the 2nd half, were enough to seal a 0:2 win for the Latics.

1975 - Battle of the Non-League Giants
Wimbledon were elected to the Football League in 1977 and the Latics followed a year later, 1978, both clubs had a rich history in the non-league circles in the years leading up to our respective elections.
One such year was 1975, there was a ‘Super Cup’ played in September between the Champions of the North and the Champions of the South, Latics and Wimbledon, a two legged affair to determine the Champions of Non-League England.

AFC Wimbledon Current Form
Wimbledon currently sit 20th in League One with 33pts from 34 games, their recent form is, LDLDD.
Wimbledon’s 17 away games so far this season have brought 16pts, with four wins (Donny 1:2, Morecambe 3:4 Lincoln 0:1 and Accrington 0:2), nine defeats & four draws, scoring 18 goals and conceding 29.
They drew on their last game which was at home against Doncaster Rovers, ending 2:2 with Wimbledon letting slip a two goal lead. They are currently on a run of 15 League games (16 in all comps) without a win scoring just 11 goals in those 15 games, their last win was away at Accrington Stanley on 11th December.
Player To Watch – Jack Rudoni
Jack Rudoni
‘He’s one of our own’ Jack Rudoni has been with AFC Wimbledon since he was 11, breaking into the first team as a 19 year old in the 2019/20 season, Rudoni is now the first name on the team sheet.
A very talented attacking midfield player, the 20 year old has been the shining light for the Dons this season, leading the way in the stats charts with 8 goals and five assists from his 35 appearances.
Not afraid of a midfield tussle, Rudoni has committed 29 fouls and drawn 28 fouls so far this campaign. He is being coveted by several clubs and a move away from Plough Lane looks likely this summer with Championship club QPR leading the chase for his signature.
