Any Previous? Oxford United v Latics

Latics and Oxford United have only met on eleven occasions down the years, all of which have come in the third tier of English football.

The first game came back in December 1982, a crowd of 4,008 braved a bitter cold day, snow was covering the ground and the sun was shinning.

A close game saw Jim Smith’s Oxford turn out 0:1 winners with Latics remaining in 13th spot in the table. It was our first ever season at this level, following promotion from Division 4 the previous season, we finished the campaign off in 18th spot.

Fast forward to 2017 as the Latics and Oxford met for the first time in over 16 years, a pre-Christmas delight saw us record our best ever away win in the Football League, an hat-trick by Will Grigg, a brace from Max Power and a goal apiece by Nick Powell and Gavin Massey, cementing our place at the top of League 1 on our way to being crowned Champions at the end of that particular season.  That was the last meeting between the two sides at the Kassam Stadium.
